Frequently Asked Questions
What to expect from your first session
Your first session is a safe, judgment-free space where you can begin to share what's weighing on you. We'll talk about what brought you to therapy, what you're hoping for, and start creating a plan that feels manageable and supportive. You don't have to have everything figured out—just showing up is enough.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes, we are currently in-network with Aetna. This allows many clients to access therapy with lower out-of-pocket costs. If you're unsure of your coverage, we are happy to help verify it.
How long is a session and how often do we meet?
Standard sessions last 50 minutes. Most clients find meeting once a week is helpful for building momentum in their healing journey. We will work together to find a rhythm that honors your needs and respects your season of life.
Understanding EMDR
What is EMDR therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to briefly focus on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation, which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the memories.
How does the process work?
The process involves identifying a specific memory to target. Your therapist will guide you through eye movements, taps, or tones, allowing your brain to naturally reprocess the information so it no longer feels distressing in the present.
What are the benefits of EMDR?
EMDR can lead to faster emotional relief than traditional talk therapy for certain conditions. It helps reduce anxiety, flash-backs, and the 'fight-flight-freeze' responses triggered by past traumatic events.
